ASSEMBLE! MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out on May 1st, which means you only have a week to plan an epic viewing party. Get your friends together, watch the first Avengers (and the other Marvel movies–I’d recommend Thor and the Iron Mans myself!) and get prepped for the newest addition to the Marvel collection.

I planned such a party this past week. There were food, drink, escape games, prizes, and of course, movies. Thanks to Collective Bias, I was able to hit up my local Walmart and grab everything I needed for the party. (You can see everything they have and more at walmart.com/avengers.) I might have had a bit too much fun finding all of the cool Avengers stuff…

Protip: Dr. Pepper, Cheez-Its, Doritos, and Kelloggs are all making Avengers-themed items at the moment. Your party snacks and decor are practically complete.  You’re welcome.

Let’s get started with food. What do you serve at an Avengers viewing party?

Arc Reactor Floats

Arc Reactor Float

Cherry Doctor Pepper + vanilla ice cream = A delicious dessert that looks a bit like the glowing sphere in Tony Stark’s chest.

Hawkeye Skewers

Hawkeye Skewers

These fruit skewers look like Hawkeye pierced through them himself! I made the ends by cutting small rectangles of purple paper, cutting slits halfway down, and then wrapping the back around the skewer with double-stick tape.

Avengers Cupcakes

Clockwise from top left: Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Hawkeye, Thor, Black Widow

I made simple cupcakes out of a boxed mix and topped them with my signature vanilla buttercream. The wrappers and sprinkles were all chosen based on the colors of the Avengers characters.

Shawarma

Avengers Shawarma

Just some Avengers eatin’ some Shawarma. (How amazing/terrifying are these masks???)

You can’t NOT have Shawarma at an Avengers party! I got mine from a local Mediterranean place to make sure it was authentic. (It also cut down on the amount of food prep I had to do pre-party!) It was the first time having Shawarma sandwiches for a lot of us, and was a fun talking point once we got to the scene at the end of the movie.

Movie Snacks

Avengers Snacks

I put some cute plastic Avengers cups near the Doritos and Cheez-Its, so guests could fill up their own movie snack mix. The Cheez-Its have little Avengers logos engraved into the crackers, which made them a huge hit at the party.

Candy

I took the Avengers Pinata Filler (found in the party supply section) and arranged it into the Avengers “A” on the coffee table where we were watching the movies.

Other than watching movies, what can you do at a Marvel party? Make people compete to be the best Avenger, of course!
Over the course of the party, my guests had to:

Shoot a bow like Hawkeye

Hawkeye Challenge

“Hulk Out” of their shirt fastest

Hulk Off

And answer trivia for fun prizes. I stocked up on Avengers LEGO sets, games, costume pieces, action figures, and DVDs for guests to win. It was like geeky Christmas up in here.

After we were all worn out from activities, we settled in for the movie. I highly recommend you rewatch The Avengers before seeing Age of Ultron. It’s great to remember all of the little details!

As my guests were leaving, I had one last treat for them. A little parting present encouraging them to have a calm morning: themed packets of green tea.

Hulk Tea

(Just cut little rectangles of green paper and attach them to the green tea label with double-stick tape!)

I had such a blast throwing this party, and was honestly surprised at all the Avengers stuff Walmart had. I’d recommend them if you’re throwing a party or if you’re just looking for some fun accessories to wear to the movie theater. Plus, there’s a sweet Super Heroes Assemble App that works with some displays in Walmart. Check it out!

What exciting things do you have planned for the premiere? Will you be seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron on opening night?
