Check Out These Web Series!

As you may know, I’m a producer and actor on a web series called Job Hunters. And when one spends a good chunk of their time on a web series, they watch a lot of others. We decided to make a little video of some of our other fave series so our fans have something to watch in between episodes. If you’re looking for a fun way to procrastinate for a bit, check these out!

The recommendation portion of the video starts at 1:10. I’ve also listed all of the web series below:

Storytellers
Because Science
Humans & Households
The New Adventures of Peter + Wendy
Transolar Galactica
JourneyQuest
Classic Alice
I Ship It
Gritty Reboots

What are your favorite web series? Have you seen any of the ones listed above? Let me know in the comments!

funded fix

It’s been an eventful week! Thanks to you all, the Geeky Sprinkle Kickstarter funded at 110% and Geeky Sprinkles are a thing that will happen! The rest of the week has been full of celebrating, recuperating from the Kickstarter, and getting to work. While resting, I happened upon some fun links. Check them out!

The Best “Let It Go” Cover Ever: I enjoyed Frozen and I thought “Let it Go” was a nice song, but haven’t been as obsessed as a lot of people I know. But I am absolutely obsessed with this cover. It’s so, so well done, and I get chills every time I watch it. Plus the costuming is beautiful. It’s just amazing.

Penny Arcade: I’m loving this particular comic by Penny Arcade. Yay accidental math! Games are great!

The Doubleclicks “Tabletop Games”: The Doubleclicks were on Tabletop this past week, and posted a fantastic song/video that includes the titles of every game played on Tabletop. It’s super fun and has a lot of great cameos!

Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Contest: I’m a finalist in the Girl Scout Cookie Recipe Contest, and it’s your last chance to vote for me! Voting ends on February 27th. You just have to click on the link, click the “Cookie Butter” recipe, then click “Submit!” So easy!

bellevday

Happy Valentine’s Day! I love you all for checking out my site and chatting with me in the comments, on FB, and on Twitter. Seeing new comments always brightens my day! Go get yourself some chocolate. Tell ’em Tara sent ya.

Here are some links that have caught my eye over the past week:

Brutally Honest Disney Valentine’s Day Cards: This link is pretty self explanatory. You’ll most likely find a card for everyone in here.

Six’s Dress from BSG: You can get a wearable prop replica dress for $120. And wearable replicas of her jewelry for $20. I’ll take a size Medium, please.

Zeppeldrome: This super fun board game is currently being Kickstarted and is almost out of time! If you like dirigibles and games and fun and good people, go help fund it!

Geeky Sprinkles!: Yes, what a surprise. My Kickstarter. Well, it’s the last week I’ll put up the link! My campaign ends on Tuesday night and I’m very close to funding. I’ve added stretch goals and add-ons, so go take a look!

doctor who valentine

This is one of the Valentines created by Kyle Reardon for backers of my Geeky Sprinkles Kickstarter campaign! You can see them all here

I’m sitting at home, looking at snow outside my window, and holding a hot cup of tea. It’s pretty much the dream environment for a blogger. As I get started on posts and recipes for the week, I wanted to take a quick peek at some of my favorite links from this past week.

Van Gogh Infinity Scarf: Her Universe has done it again and has me desperately wanting another piece of their clothing. This time it’s a Doctor Who/Van Gogh infinity scarf that would go with pretty much any outfit. How cute is it?

Cupcake Syrup: Speaking of things I want to buy, have you heard of Cupcake syrup? It makes coffee a thing that I actually want to drink. I keep brainstorming what other things I could make taste like a cupcake! The options are endless. ENDLESS.

Free Goodies from OneUpMakeup: OneUpMakeup, the geeky makeup channel I do with a group of lovely girls, is hosting a contest for a grab bag of tons of awesome makeup! Check it out!

Geeky Sprinkles: My Kickstarter is over 75% funded with 9 days to go. It’s close, but it needs an extra push to get it there. Can you help spread the word?

SeahawksCupcakes

These cupcakes were made for the last Seahawks game. I used my “Pirate Rum Cupcakes” recipe and added blue and green food coloring to the cake and frosting. I’m excited to make more for the Super Bowl this Sunday! Go Hawks!

I’m giving this new type of post a try, where each week I bring you a list of links I’ve found and loved. These are things that have entertained or intrigued me, or are awesome products/people I want to support. It’s similar to the Friday Favorites I’ve done in the past, but focused on links. Let’s do this!

Noob The Loser: A tumblr featuring original comics, my favorite being one about a D&D group. (That’s the one linked to here.) It’s hilarious and will hit close to home for folks who have played D&D before.

Super Knocked Up: A super villain and a super hero get together, and the villain ends up knocked up. (Or… “Super Knocked Up.” Get it?) This cute web series just won an IAWTV award for best supplemental content! Way to go guys!

Whole Foods Meal Plans: After the Super Bowl is over, I’m gonna need to start eating healthy again. And I’m looking forward to trying one of the meal plans that Whole Foods put together. I’m especially loving their “healthy comfort foods” plan.

Cashtronauts: This is a fast-paced, retro arcade-style game for PC/Mac/Linux that’s now available on Kickstarter. It looks like a lot of fun!

SciFiDeals: Get Free and deeply discounted Sci-Fi eBooks sent to your inbox! Pretty sweet!

Geeky Sprinkles: My Kickstarter for Geeky Sprinkles is over 50% funded! If you want to get your hands on some geeky sprinkle shapes, make sure you back the project!

Friday Faves 12-20

The year is almost over, and most of my time has been spent trying to wrap up things from 2013 before taking some time off to spend with family. But my mind keeps wandering to 2014 and what’s in store… I’ve got big plans and can’t wait to sit down and assess the projects in my life and find ways to make them bigger and better.

When I haven’t been bogged down with all of that, I’ve been checking out the following:

Favorite Tumblr: The Bob’s Burger Experiment
Someone is making all of the burger specials that are on the board in “Bob’s Burgers.” I want to eat them all. While kicking myself for not coming up with this first. Check it out!

Favorite Music: The NSYNC Christmas Album.
WHAT. Judge me all you want. It’s not Christmas until I listen to it.

Favorite Food: Muddy Buddies
This is my go-to holiday snack. It’s quick, easy, and delicious. The only problem is I end up eating way more than I should. Whatever, I’m gonna make some more tonight. Make some yourself.

Favorite Holiday Helpers: Whole Foods Wine and Cheese Department
I went to a wine and cheese pairing tasting last week at Whole Foods, and it was amazing. The wine and cheese folks at Whole Foods are ridiculously knolwedgeable, and are pretty sassy/fun to boot. I gave them some of my toughest questions (“What’s a good riesling for someone who doesn’t like rieslings?,” “What’s your dirtiest, earthiest tasting wine, and what cheese should I pair with it?” and “Got any wines from the Horse Heaven Hills area?”) and they were able to answer them all with flying colors. Plus, their wines were not as spendy as I thought they’d be. If you need to grab a wine or a nice cheese for a party or gift, hit them up and challenge their knowledge. You’ll walk out with something great.

Friday Faves 11-22

Excitement is in the air in the Geek World. This week brought us Hunger Games: Catching Fire and is about to bring us the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. I’ve loved catching up on all of the trailers and excitement and can’t wait to see the reviews and posts that next week brings! Here are some of my favorite things from this past week:

Favorite Trailer: Job Hunters Season 2
We launched the teaser trailer for Job Hunters Season 2 today. It gets me excited and I know what happens! Watch it here and share it with your friends!

Favorite Kickstarter: Zeppeldrome
A boardgame involving dirigibles that encourages you to screw over your neighbor. I’m already intrigued! Plus, I know the folks behind it and they do fantastic work. This is a solid bet if you’re looking for a fun new game! Check out the Kickstarter page here.

Favorite Movie: Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The new Hunger Games movie is FANTASTIC. Much better than the first. I’ve read the books are there are still parts where I jumped during the film. I was on the edge of my seat, I laughed, I cried, I was in awe of the beauty in some of the shots. Just go see it!

Favorite Drink: Birthday Cake Tea
I’ve been sipping on a birthday present from my brother lately, and it’s Birthday Cake tea from David’s Tea. It has sprinkles and freeze dried ice cream bits in it. Enough said.

What are some of your favorite things from the past week?

Friday Favorites: November 15

Friday Faves 11-15

It’s already the middle of November and nothing I’m doing is helping time stop or go any slower. But I’ve found lots of delightful new things to keep myself occupied as winter closes its cold grasp on me. Take a look!

Favorite Trailer: Maleficent
The Maleficent trailer premiered this week, and you could almost hear the cries of excitement ring out throughout the land. This is a villain we’re all excited to root for!

Favorite Charity Event: Desert Bus For Hope
If you like watching sleep-deprived people play a boring video game and do silly tasks while raising money for Child’s Play, then you’ll love Desert Bus! Tune into the pre-show starting tonight at 6:30pm Pacific, or tune in on Saturday morning at 10am for the start of the event. Last year they played for over 6 days and made over $440,000. I can’t wait to see what this year holds! Tune in at desertbus.org.

Favorite Product: Real Techniques Makeup Brushes
I got these brushes from a Klout perk (of all places) and I absolutely LOVE them. You may remember that I’m not so good with makeup brushes, I prefer to put makeup on with my hands. Well, these brushes have changed that. They’re super easy to use (they tell you how to use them on the brush and the packaging), they’re cute, and they’re well made. The first day I started using them, Mr. Geek complimented me on my makeup. So far so good! You can find them at Amazon.com.

Favorite Superhero: Batkid
San Francisco has turned into Gotham City for the day as one Make-a-Wish kid becomes Batkid and saves the town from a series of villains. You can watch the events live here!

What awesome things have you discovered this week?

Friday Favorites: November 1

Friday Faves Nov 1

Happy November! This past week has involved parties, a wedding, my birthday, Halloween, and prepping for Extra Life. All I want to do is sleep and instead I’m prepping to stay awake for 25 hours! Hey, it’s for the kids. These are the things I’m loving from the past week:

Favorite Kickstarter #1: Heroes and Inspirations Jewelry Line
Optimystical Studios (the amazing geeky jewelry found at conventions and my booth neighbors at Geek Girl Con) are launching a new jewelry line that features renditions of lady scientists by lady artists on dog tags. They’re beautiful and the campaign is thisclose to succeeding! Check out all of the different types of jewelry they have available here.

Favorite Kickstarter #2: BatteryBot
The makers of MimoBot have created a rechargeable battery for devices like phones and tablets. The super cute creatures can help you out whenever you’re stuck with a dead phone, and you can help make them a reality! Pledge here–there are some early bird discounts for those who pledge!

Favorite Exhibit: Modernist Cuisine
The Pacific Science Center has a really cool exhibit up now until February, and I can’t wait to go check it out. You will see the “science of food” through close up and fantastic photos, many of which include preparation and cooking of food and detail into how it happens. Food, science, and photography? This sounds too good to miss! Find out more here.

Favorite Event: Extra Life
Extra Life is tomorrow! I’ll be making video game-themed food and participating with Team Hypercube. You can see our full schedule here. Tune in to see what we’re up to, and make a pledge if you can! The money goes towards the Seattle Children’s Hospital!

What have you discovered this week? Will you be tuning into the Extra Life livestream tomorrow?

Friday Favorites: October 18

Friday Faves 10-18

This week has me prepping my Halloween post shoot, prepping for GeekGirlCon, and prepping for various other parties/events happening in the next few weeks. With my birthday, my friends’ birthdays, Halloween, and more, the 2nd half of October is always an adventure! Here are the things I’ve been loving this past week:

Favorite Con: GeekGirlCon
GeekGirlCon is this weekend! I’ll be writing up a full post later on where I’ll be and when, but regardless, I’m thrilled to spend a weekend with tons of lovely geeky women (and geeky women supporters). Tickets are sold out online, but a limited supply will be available at the door. Will I see you there?

Favorite Charitable Event: Extra Life
Extra Life is coming up on November 2nd and I still have to make a list of the video game-inspired food I’ll be making! I’ll be making all of the meals during the 25 hour time frame, and they all will be video game themed. Cheer me on by making a pledge, all the money goes to the Seattle Children’s Hospital! Let me know in the comments what video game food you’d like to see me make.

Favorite Game: Full Screen Mario
When I need a quick break and a dose of nostalgia, I turn to Full Screen Mario. It’s got all of the levels you know and love plus a level generator for some new fun! Try it out now.

Favorite Party Supplies: Oriental Trading
I just received a new shipment from Oriental Trading this week with supplies for four different projects I’m currently working on. I love ordering from them because they have so many cool things, their prices are great, and it gets here fairly fast. I can’t wait to play with all of my new goodies! Start shopping.
