Game Truck: Easy Party Planning for Video Game Geeks

I had the pleasure of touring a Game Truck last week with the other writers of Zaxy.com, my other blog.

Game Truck is a pretty simple concept. Giant truck, full of gaming systems:

Four 50″ plasma TV’s, three Xbox 360s, three Wiis, two PS3s, and enough video games to keep you entertained forever greet you as you enter. The games showcased are removable, so if you choose to have a Game Truck party for your 6-year-old, you can make sure he doesn’t end up playing Call of Duty.

Game Truck  drives to you and parks wherever: we played directly outside of a pizza place.

Game Truck also supports system link and has multiple copies of games, so when you want to organize a sweet Halo tourney in your backyard, it’s as easy as having them bring the truck over.

The Game Truck is a quick, affordable, and memorable way to throw a party for your kid, husband, or yourself. Park it outside your favorite bar, if you want!

My Crazy Valentine

Valentine’s Day is less than a week away. And for many, Valentine’s Day is one of the worst days out there. So why not get your Valentine’s Day-hating friends together for one crazy party. All the disturbing and snarky parts of love, none of the sweetness.

Entertainment:
The event should get started with my favorite non-traditional love story:

He Loves Me He Loves Me Not
A French romance film starring Audrey Tautou? May sound too lovey-dovey for you, but I guarantee it’s not. My gentlemen friends still cringe when I bring this movie up; it makes love scary on a psychological level. I promise. Stay with it till the end.
$14.99 at Amazon.com

After a good dose of crazy, release your inner feelings with some homemade ransom Valentines. Make them for each other and then pass them out. Or even better, slip them under the doors of those who couldn’t make the party.

All you need is some construction paper, scissors, glue stick, and the thickest wedding magazine you can find. Bonus points, with a couple markers you can go to town making zombie brides!

Treats:
Just because your guests are single for Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean they don’t deserve gifts. Just stay away from anything too romantic.

Show them you care with an anatomically correct gummy heart (complete with gummy blood). Take a bit of extra time to wrap it up in a nice box, they’ll never know what’s coming.

Do you love the chalky taste of conversation hearts, but hate the sayings? Find something a bit more appropriate in this container of Bittersweets.
$9.95 at Despair.com

Want to get a bit more crafty with your treats? Try Sprinkle Bake’s Chocolate Cupcakes with Flaming Strawberries:

Fire, alcohol, fruit, and chocolate. Can’t go wrong in my book. Just make sure the true crazies stay away.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

You’ll Fall in Love: The Piecycle

One of my friends from UW, Max Kraushaar, has recently become a bit of a Seattle celebrity with his new business: The Piecycle. This past weekend, KOMO 4 News tagged along.

Can’t you just imagine how those pies smell? Amazing. And this guy even biked around on his birthday, a couple weeks ago. Now that’s commitment!

You can order a slice or whole pie from Max on weekend evenings if you’re in the University District. Text 425.923.6655.

Find him on Facebook and Twitter.

Adorable Darth Vader

Well, that’s a phrase I never thought I’d write.

You’ve probably seen this ad making the rounds: It’s a Super Bowl ad for Volkswagen that shows parents using their car’s new technology to grow their child’s imagination (and potentially scar the child for life, making him think he has The Force.)

I’m glad that even car commercials can’t figure out the practical purposes of being able to start your car from  your keychain.

Sweets for your Sweet

Valentine’s Day is approaching, and all of us online shoppers know this is the week to get our orders in.

If your Valentine is worth more than the standard box of chocolate, take a look at some of these unique candy options:

Chocolate Caramel Dominoes

If you prefer a cozy game night in with your honey, then this gift does double duty. Play a game, and eat the leftover pieces!

12 pieces for $45.. Must order by Monday, February 7th for Valentine’s Day delivery.

Lollyphile Lollipops

Lollyphile makes creative lollipop flavors that are more suitable for grown-ups and manly men. And if you get an assortment and tie them together, they make a great alternative to a bouquet of flowers! Some of my favorite flavors include their Pomegranate-Tangerine, Hyper Cola, and Bourbon.

Lollipops start at orders of 4 for $10. Use discount code “BROMANCE” for 40% off your order, for a limited time.

Chocomize Custom Chocolate Bars

Prefer to make your gift? Chocomize has tons of unique additions you can put into your very own chocolate bar. Get creative, or put all of your Valentine’s favorite things into one ultimate-candy. For my “ultimate Valentine’s Day bar”, I took a milk chocolate bar and added dried strawberries, pop rocks, sprinkles, and candy sugar hearts.

Chocolate bars start at $3.95 and increase with each item you add.

World’s Largest Gummy Bear

Why get your valentine the cliche gift of candy and a teddy bear when you can get him/her both in ONE? The World’s Largest Gummy Bear is sure to impress (and hey, they’ll probably need help eating it). Don’t want to get that extreme with your gift giving? You can get the slightly more normal-sized Giant Gummy Bear on a Stick for a third of the price.

$29.95-$35.95.

Don’t have a Valentine? No one says you can’t get this stuff for yourself! Or find another single friend and send each other a nice Valentine’s Day care package. No matter what, make it a sweet day.

Magical Salt and Pepper Shakers

Let’s face it. Sometimes, your food could use a bit of magic to taste better. And with these salt and pepper shakers, all of your fairy princess dreams will come true. (How was “fairy princess” a thing? Are you a fairy that is also a princess? And you have magical powers? I guess I’m just not clear. Ok, back to the post.)

Whether you’re more of the “fairy princess”, “wizard”, or “goddess of the moon star” variety, these salt and pepper shakers will definitely liven up your table or next party.

At the moment, this product is just a concept, but has definitely given me ideas for my next theme party…

Ban the Phone Book!

Whitepages.com is putting together a great “Ban the Phone Book” campaign, encouraging folks to sign a petition for an “opt in” system for phone books. It launched a video today, asking people when their last time using a phone book was. My fiance and I were lucky enough to be in it!

Check it out:

I couldn’t believe that $17,000,000 in tax payer money is used for phone books. Wow!

Interested in helping out? You can sign the petition here, or tweet out a link to the page and YOUR last time using the phone book with #mylasttime.
