Job Hunters

Friday Favorites: April 5

Friday Faves April 5

Whew. Did this week fly by for anyone else? Here are the things that have been keeping my brain occupied for the past week!

Favorite Home Good: Cake Stands
I’ve been wanting a great cake stand or cake plate for a while. It makes the presentation better and if it has a lid, it keeps your baked good fresher longer as well! Unfortunately, my small kitchen means that items with only one use aren’t usually purchased. However, this cake plate can also be used as a platter and a salad bowl. Ridiculously cool and not too expensive!

Favorite Video: Job Hunters Table Read
We took footage from our table read of Episode 6 and spliced it with footage of the final product. Take a look at the changes made from script to scene, and see what it’s like to cold read something! You can see it here.

Favorite App: TicTrac
If you’re a stats nerd, you can finally get all of the stats about yourself and your life in one place. TicTrac syncs with pretty much every app/social media site you use and will compare the data against each other, creating awesome graphs and charts. Plus, you can create goals and tell it what to track to get you closer to that goal. Don’t have a goal in mind? “Shop” in their Project Store and get some pre-existing goals. Sign up for your account at Tictrac.com.

Favorite Treat: Leftover Easter Candy
I have to eat it all up so it’ll be gone and I can start eating healthy/exercising again. That’s how it works, right? Either way, I’ve been living off of jellybeans and mini chocolate eggs. I’m ok with this.

Favorite Kickstarter: Job Hunters
Ok, you all knew it was coming. We’re down to a little over a day left. We still need your help. Please, consider donating even a few dollars, and tell your friends. We really want to do a second season, and are SO close to making it happen. Donate at Kickstarter.com.

Job Hunters Live Show!

JH Live Show

This Saturday from 12pm-6pm PDT, I’ll be live online. Yes, for 6 hours straight. The Job Hunters producers will be counting down the final hours of our Kickstarter campaign with our traditional live show. Basically, we’ll do goofy and embarrassing things in exchange for your donations. Last year included nicknames, eating disgusting things, a sing-along, and a giant jump into a pool among other things. Who knows what this year has in store for us?

Our tentative schedule so far:

12:00 – Intro/Welcome/Q&A
1:00 – Dating Game with Job Hunters characters
2:00 – Play-through of Job Hunters Showdown!
3:00 – Job Hunters Interactive Mafia!
4:00 – Gaming Hour – there will be some surprises here!
5:00 – Final Hour Ramp Up/Excitement/Dares
6:00 – FINISHED!

I’ll update this post with the link when I have it, but in the meantime you can RSVP on Facebook to be one of the first to get the link. Stop in, stay awhile, and see why Job Hunters is so important to me!

Still haven’t watched Job Hunters? See the full season (in under an hour!) here.

Haven’t donated yet? There’s still time! Visit our Kickstarter. We’ve got some awesome incentives including a Job Hunters RPG and a Job Hunters card game!

Please share news of the Live Show and the Kickstarter in your social circles–it would mean so much to me!

Job Hunters Card Game

JH Card Game

I’m so psyched to announce that my web series Job Hunters has teamed up with Wyrd Miniatures to make Job Hunters Showdown–a card game that you can currently only get by donating to our Kickstarter.

The game allows you to battle a character of your choice with another character, and will be available in a variety of themes and brands once it’s released fully later this summer. When you’re not in the mood to play the game as it’s written, you can also use the cards as a standard card deck, so you can still play Poker, Solitaire, Go Fish… whatever floats your boat.

You can get the cards by donating to the $39 “Showdown” incentive level or as an add-on to your current incentive by increasing your pledge by $30. Check it out at Kickstarter.com!

(Only a couple more days to donate if you haven’t already! We’ll be doing a live show on Saturday counting down the final few hours–more info to come. And then I promise I’ll stop bugging you!)

Friday Favorites: March 22

Fri Faves March 22

It’s time for some more Friday Favorites! These are things I’ve personally been loving this week. Check it out and let me know in the comments what your favorites of the week have been!

Graphic Novel: Husbands
You may have seen the web series. You may have read the individual issues. Now you can get the trade, starting on March 27th. I took a peek at it, and laughed out loud multiple times in the first few pages alone. The writing is snappy, the art is fun, and I may like it even more than the web series it’s based off of! Plus, Neil Gamin wrote the intro. Because it’s that awesome. You can pre-order it here.

Kickstarter: Job Hunters
Another day, another mention of Job Hunters. We did the math, and if all of our existing subscribers donated $3 to the campaign, we’d be well over our goal. Help us out, even with a few dollars, right here! And if you have donated, we’ve got awesome “Tiny Marshmallow” badges for you!

Treat: Banana Bread
In an effort to let less food go to waste, I made some impromptu banana bread this week with some browning bananas and some household staples. Bonus: I used the same recipe that I used at 4am during Extra Life! You can find the recipe here.

Airline: Virgin America
I’m lucky enough to get to fly to and from Boston on Virgin, my favorite airlines. You just feel cooler riding in their planes. Plus, they’s relatively inexpensive, I’ve never had delays on their flights, their food is healthy, tasty, and sometimes cheaper than in the airport, and their entertainment options keep me happy even if I’m in the middle seat. I’ve never had a bad experience with them. And I’ve now officially jinxed myself for the ride back home. Consider Virgin America for your next trip!

Friday Favorites: March 15

Friday Faves March 15

Here are my favorite things from this past week! Missed the first “Friday Favorites” post? Check it out here.

Favorite Beauty Product: Full n’ Soft Mascara
I’ve tried a lot of mascaras, but I keep coming back to this one. It makes my lashes all pretty-like but without feeling sticky, clumpy, or brittle. It looks and feels like I just have awesome natural lashes. Fellow OneUpMakeuper Meagan also swears by it. Plus, it’s only $5.99 on Amazon!

Favorite Video(s): “Most Cans Opened in 3 Seconds” and “After Ever After
I can’t choose. Don’t make me choose. These videos are both very different, and I love them both. “Most Cans Opened” is only a few seconds long. “After Ever After” combines catchy songs with  my love of Disney and parodies. Check them both out!

Favorite Kickstarter: Machine of Death
Machine of Death is a card game based on a book written by your favorite web comic artists and writers. So just donate. :-) They’ve surpassed so many stretch goals that everyone ends up getting WAY more than their initial incentive level. I donated and I can’t wait to get the game!

(And of course, the Job Hunters Kickstarter is still going on. If you’re able to donate or help spread the word, I’d be so grateful!)

Favorite Treat: Kukuruza Hawaiian Salted Caramel Popcorn
My mom loves salted caramel, so I stopped by Kukuruza last week to grab her some (and though I might as well try some myself). Holy cow. If you like caramel popcorn and also salted popcorn, then you will LOVE this. Bonus: The girl who helped me complimented my D&D shirt and then we chatted about this Doubleclicks song and PAX. So Kukuruza just has good taste all around. You can buy them online here or at their store near Pike Place Market.

Favorite Workout: Barre3
Contrary to what my “favorite treats” my be telling you, I am trying to lead a more healthy lifestyle, and one of my favorite ways to do that is by doing Barre3. I used to go into their classes, but then they started an online collection of classes that you can subscribe to for $15 a month (the price of one in-person class). Their classes are meant to be taken by really busy people–you have you choice between 10, 30, 40, and 60 minute videos that leave you feeling stretched out, refreshed and not too sweaty (but you’ll be waking up sore the next day!). They’re a mix of barre exercises, pilates, and yoga, and I absolutely love them. It’s the only exercise I’ve ever looked forward to doing. You can check out a sample 10 minute class here and find out more at barre3.com.

What are some of your favorite things from this past week?

Job Hunters Season Two Kickstarter

job hunters kickstarter image

In the Job Hunters panel at Emerald City Comicon, we made a special announcement: The Season Two Kickstarter is live!

Help us make Season Two of Job Hunters a reality by donating to the Kickstarter. We have some awesome incentives including a Job Hunters RPG that’s being created by our friend (and RPG writer) Logan Bonner. Donate enough, and you could even get a dozen cupcakes made in the flavor of your choice by me, and a follow-up post with a recipe for the cupcakes named after you! Yay cupcakes!

Not able to donate? Please share the Kickstarter! Tweet it, FB it, Pin it, Tumbl it, whatever the cool kids are doing these days. Any bit of support you’re able to show the project is greatly appreciated. We can’t do it without your help!

Job Hunters is a webseries that I co-produce and act in. Haven’t seen it? Check out Season One here!

Tara’s at Emerald City Comicon!

eccc

I’m thrilled to be on four panels at Emerald City Comicon this upcoming weekend. If you’re in Seattle, make sure you get yourself over there! Can’t make the panels? I’ll be wandering about the show the rest of the time, so keep an eye out for me!

Friday:

I can be a Geek and Feminine: 6pm in Room 2AB

Do you love Star Wars AND the color pink? Spend equal amounts of time shopping for clothes AND comics? There’s no shame in being geeky and feminine! Join panelists Bonnie Burton(author of The Star Wars Craft Book), Kristina Horner (YouTube vlogger “italktosnakes”),Molly McIsaac (geek fashion blogger and cosplayer), and Tara Theoharis (geek lifestyle blogger at Geekyhostess.com) as they celebrate the people and things that make being geeky and feminine fantastic! Men and women are welcome to participate in this lively discussion on what it means to be a geeky woman in the 21st Century.
I’m so psyched for this panel! Come be a part of a great discussion on being geek and feminine and learn about some awesome geeky women!

Job Hunters: 8pm in Room 3AB

Join the creators of Job Hunters, (Forest Gibson, Liz Leo, Kristina Horner, Tara Theoharis), the Seattle-based dystopian web series for a screening and Q&A. There may even be some surprises… (check us out at www.watchjobhunters.com!)
We have a special announcement–make sure you’re at the panel to be the first to hear it!

Saturday:

How To Talk to Geek Girls (And Other Supposed Mythical Creatures): 11am in Room 2AB

You see the cute geek girl at the comic shop… but you have no idea what to say to her! Let us help you with “How To Talk To Girls”, the panel that is equal parts comedy and social commentary that’s been sprinkled with a bit of dating advice and served from a feminine point of view. (But don’t let that scare you. It’s really not that frightening!) Come for the laughs… but be forewarned. You just may learn something! Presented by Molly McIsaac, Gail Simone, John Roderick, Sarah Kuhn and Forest Gibson.
I’ll be moderating this panel. The panelists are amazing and hilarious, come be entertained!

OneUpMakeup: Makeup For Geeks: 3pm in Room 401

The ladies of OneUpMakeup (Kristina Horner, Liz Leo, Mallory Shoemaker, Meagan Karimi-Naser, Molly McIsaac and Tara Theoharis) create makeup looks inspired by their nerdy passions and favorite fandoms. Join them as they talk makeup, answer your questions, and do some live demos. Whether you just wear makeup when cosplaying or rock it everyday, we’ve got a look for you! See more in the meantime at youtube.com/oneupmakeup!
We’ve got a demo and some raffle prizes planned. Make sure you get  to the panel in time to get a raffle ticket!

Will you be at Emerald City Comicon? What panels/celebs are you excited to see?
