Announcing: Geeky Hostess Teas!

One of my favorite things to do on these cold, blustery, winter days is cozy up with a cup of tea. I start my mornings with one and often end my days with one as well. So I’m thrilled to announce the newest line of Geeky Hostess products: loose leaf tea! But this isn’t your ordinary tea. I sourced the tea from Friday Afternoon, an amazing Seattle-based geeky tea company. Friday knows her stuff, and she makes beautiful blends based on popular fandoms. I took her blends and added a bit of Geeky Hostess flair: sprinkles. The sprinkles add just a tiny bit of sweetness and a lot of fun. The final product is a beautiful tin of loose leaf tea perfect for gifting (or keeping for yourself!). Without further ado, let’s take a look at the blends:

What tea blend are you most excited for? What fandoms should I include in the future?

You May Be at SDCC, But I’m Relaxing with Adagio Teas

Adagio Collage

I’m gonna be honest with you. Missing SDCC this year has been rough. It’s my first time in 4 years not attending the mega-con, and last night, while the Geeks Go Glam Party and Wootstock were going on, I couldn’t do anything but stalk my Instagram and Twitter feeds, seeing what all of my friends were up to. I was pretty sad to be missing one of the best weeks of the year. But this morning, with the help of Adagio Teas and their amazing Fandom Blends, that feeling changed. Instead of waking up sharing a hotel room with 4 other girls, feeling exhausted, sore, and hungover, mentally prepping myself for another day of heat, lines, and wall to wall people, I got to wake up in my own bed, well-rested and refreshed, ready for a productive work day at my computer. I got to head downstairs and make a wonderful Avengers-themed tea, and there were NO LINES anywhere. NONE!

Hero Recovery Tea

So let’s hold up for a second and talk about these teas. This line, called “Hero Recovery” is based on the Avengers characters, and it’s just the cutest thing in the world. My fave blend is Captain America’s (or “Stars and Stripes”) because it aptly smells and tastes just like apple pie. Yum! Avengers not your thing? They have a bajillion other fandom blends available, and if you don’t see one you like, you can make your own! (I’d recommend trying any by Cara McGee–she seems to know her stuff and her art is so cute!)

So I may not be at SDCC, but that isn’t stopping me from enjoying some geekiness form the comfort of my own home. I look forward to a cozy weekend sampling more of these cute teas, wearing my geekiest t-shirts, and digging into a new pile of comics. (I just read my very first issue of LumberJanes and LOVED it! I’m hoping to pick up some more asap!)

Are you also missing SDCC? What are you doing to cope?

(Special thanks to Adagio Tea for gifting me these goodies to try! You’ve made this week much easier!)

Help Support a Nerdy Tea Company!

Friday Afternoon Tea is in the middle of a Kickstarter to help “level up” their business. They’ll be using the money to get better packaging, sell at more conventions, and get their brand out there. But why do you care? Because Friday Afternoon Tea is a geeky tea company. And not only do they create tea blends based on geeky things, their tea is delicious. I tried the Bard’s blend (yes, they have blends based on different classes, and yes, the Bard blend has SPRINKLES in it), and it was amazing!

By donating to the Kickstarter, you’ll receive tea of your choice, and you’ll be helping out an awesome small business. Donate $50, and you will even get a custom tea blend made just for you!

The Kickstarter’s only running until Saturday and it’s close to hitting its goal, but not there yet. Please donate and share with your friends!

Friday Favorites: November 22

Friday Faves 11-22

Excitement is in the air in the Geek World. This week brought us Hunger Games: Catching Fire and is about to bring us the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. I’ve loved catching up on all of the trailers and excitement and can’t wait to see the reviews and posts that next week brings! Here are some of my favorite things from this past week:

Favorite Trailer: Job Hunters Season 2
We launched the teaser trailer for Job Hunters Season 2 today. It gets me excited and I know what happens! Watch it here and share it with your friends!

Favorite Kickstarter: Zeppeldrome
A boardgame involving dirigibles that encourages you to screw over your neighbor. I’m already intrigued! Plus, I know the folks behind it and they do fantastic work. This is a solid bet if you’re looking for a fun new game! Check out the Kickstarter page here.

Favorite Movie: Hunger Games: Catching Fire
The new Hunger Games movie is FANTASTIC. Much better than the first. I’ve read the books are there are still parts where I jumped during the film. I was on the edge of my seat, I laughed, I cried, I was in awe of the beauty in some of the shots. Just go see it!

Favorite Drink: Birthday Cake Tea
I’ve been sipping on a birthday present from my brother lately, and it’s Birthday Cake tea from David’s Tea. It has sprinkles and freeze dried ice cream bits in it. Enough said.

What are some of your favorite things from the past week?

Nudo: Adopt Something Delicious

Why give a friend a gift of teas or olive oils when instead you can give them their own olive tree or tea garden? This is the concept of Nudo: you can adopt a tree or garden and receive a seasonal selection from your own adoptee. I’ve written about Nudo in the past and have loved checking up on the company. (I mean, how cool would it be to tell your friends the story of the exact tree your oil is from?) This holiday season, they’ve expanded their olive tree selection and added Darjeeling Tea Gardens.

I had the pleasure of sampling their new Sicilian Feudo Giulfo single-estate extra-virgin olive oil as well as their Darjeeling Tea, and oh my gosh you guys, the stuff is good. The olive oil is spicy, fruity, and so good on its own with a bit of bread. The Golden Harvest tea was indeed golden in color and tasted like the ultimate cup of tea. This is the stuff tea parties are made of.

If you’re looking for a fun, unique gift for someone that loves food or tea, or cares greatly about where their food comes from, Nudo is for you. And because they’re so awesome, they’re giving away a tea adoption! You’ll receive an adoption certificate from your tea garden and a shipment of the Golden Harvest Darjeeling loose leaf tea. Vintage Altered Teacups

Surprise your sweetie with some vintage altered teacups from Etsy shop Geekdetails. The ones featured above would make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift or wedding present, but the shop has cups that work for multiple occasions. Relax with an episode of Doctor Who and the Don’t Blink or Timelord cups, or let a frenemy or roommate know your true feelings with some of the other options. I can’t picture a better way to take my tea.

Sherlock-Inspired Tea

Despite my best efforts, my body has chosen to get sick on the eve of two weeks of conventions. I’m resting up and drinking tons of liquids, but I know I would be getting better more quickly if I had these Sherlock-inspired teas.

Made by adagio teas and blended by Cara McGee,  each tea captures the personality of a different character from the BBC show. As the site says, “Whether your favorite character is Mycroft (cake!), Sherlock (smoke and mystery) or Moriarty (a bit insane and guaranteed to burn the heart of you if you’re not careful), you’ll hopefully find a blend to suit your taste.”

Teas, $10 for a 3 oz pouch at

Unique Sandwich Cutters

It’s the first day of Spring, and dreams of sunny picnics and lazy afternoon tea parties have entered my head. Little sandwiches are a go-to at both of these events, but it’s best to avoid the cliche triangles, circles, and squares. Dress your sandwiches up with these fun sandwich cutters!

DynoBytes Sandwich Crust Cutter
Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? $4.49.

Bat Bytes Sandwich Crust Cutters
Perfect meal for a Dark Knight marathon before the newest movie comes out. $6.69.

Puzzle Bites Sandwich Cutter
These sandwiches will be the hit of your game night! $7.50.

Crustache Crust Cutter
Whether you’re playing “spot the hipster” in the park or just need a quick disguise on your lunch break, these mustache sandwiches will do the job. $5.95.

What’s your favorite sandwich recipe? I’m partial to Nutella and Banana. (Does that even count as a sandwich anymore, or is it just dessert?)

The GH Wishlist: Think Geek

The Geeky Hostess will be posting her holiday wishlists at some of her favorite online shops over the next week. Use them as a guide to creating your own holiday wish list or find the perfect gift for the geeky host(ess) in your life!

Think Geek and their mascot, Timmy, constantly keep their store filled with the best geeky products. Whenever I need to put a wishlist together for my birthday or Christmas, it’s the first site I turn to. Here are a few things on my wishlist this year:

Cylon T-Shirt, $27.99.
I thought up a shirt very similar to this and tried to make it recently, but found out I’m not skilled in drawing realistic spines. So instead, I’ll just purchase this one, created by Her Universe! (The shirt is currently sold out at Think Geek, but is still available from Her Universe.)

Caffeinated “Magic” Brownie Mix
, $13.99.
Best slumber party/game night snack ever? Plus, I could dissect the mix a bit and learn how to make it myself from scratch. (Insert evil laughter here.)

Hand-forged Feasting Utensils, $49.99 (currently on sale for $39.99).
These utensils are the best for LOTR, Game of Thrones, and D&D-style feasts. Plus it comes with a holster, so you can look totally bad-ass while bringing your own utensils to the Ren Faire.

Timmy’s Tea Sampler, $17.99 (currently on sale for $14.99).
These tea canisters are the cutest! I’d love to have them on display when guests arrive. The teas all sound great, and it’s a nice mix to suit everyone’s tastes.

Moldable Magic Chocolate Kit, $6.99.
I could create some really cute decorations out of this moldable chocolate without worrying about it melting. But I’d probably limit my usage to one time only. I feel more than that would make it pretty disgusting.

What I’m Giving:

Cosmic Catnip Bubbles, $4.99.
My cat is actually going to do paranoid little back-flips when I give her this gift. The rest of us will greatly enjoy it. has something for every geek on your list, check it out!
